Slab Selection & Sourcing

Choosing the actual slabs at the yard, then reserving and sourcing them for your job.

A two-inch sample tells you the colour and nothing else. Movement, veining scale and how busy a stone reads across eight feet of island are only visible on the full slab, standing up, in daylight. So we take you to the yard.

What happens at the yard

We walk the racks with you, pull the candidates out, and look at them against your cabinet door and floor sample rather than under showroom light alone. Then we photograph the slabs you like, with their block and bundle numbers, so the exact stone can be reserved rather than "something similar" arriving later.

Two practical points people are surprised by:

  • Natural stone varies between slabs from the same name. Two granites called the same thing can look like different stones.
  • Kitchens that need two slabs should have them chosen as a pair from the same block, so the counters read as one material.

Sourcing and reserving

We buy direct from the suppliers rather than through a general contractor's markup, and we are not tied to one brand or house line — the specification follows your job. Once you have chosen, the slabs are tagged and held for your fabrication date, which is what stops a stone selling out during the week your kitchen is being built.

Remnants are worth asking about for a vanity top, a butler's pantry or a fireplace surround: the offcut from someone's kitchen is often exactly enough, at a fraction of the price.

Then what

Your chosen slabs go to our partner fabricators, cut to the template taken in your home, and are installed by our own crew.

Material pages, if you are still deciding: quartz, granite, marble and natural stone, porcelain and sintered stone. You can also buy slabs from us outright — see cabinet and slab sales.
