Granite is quarried stone, so no two slabs are the same and nobody else has yours. That is the appeal, and it is also why granite is a material you pick with your eyes rather than off a sample chip.

Pick the actual slab

We take you to the yard and you choose the specific slabs your kitchen will be cut from. Movement runs differently across a slab than it does in a two-inch sample: a stone that looks calm in the corner of a photo can have a dramatic band right where your island lands. Seeing the full slab standing up, in daylight, is the only reliable way to know.

If your kitchen needs two slabs, we pick them as a pair from the same block wherever the yard has it, so the counters read as one stone.

Living with it

Granite is hard, heat-tolerant and forgiving of ordinary kitchen abuse — a hot pan off the burner is not the crisis it is on some engineered surfaces. It is porous, so it gets sealed when we install it, and resealing every year or two keeps oil and wine from finding their way in. That is a ten-minute job with a bottle from the hardware store, not a service call.

Darker granites hide everything. Lighter, busier ones hide crumbs and show water spots. Both wear well for decades.

Where it goes

  • Kitchen counters and islands, including oversized ones that need a planned seam
  • Bathroom vanity tops, where a remnant often covers the whole run
  • Full-height slab backsplash behind a range, cut from the same slab as the tops
  • Fireplace surrounds and hearths in the same stone

The sequence

Cabinets first, then template off what is actually installed, then fabrication by our partner fabricators, then installation by our crew with the sink and faucet reconnected. Two to three days in the house, about a week of fabrication in between. Edge treatment, overhang support and where the seam falls are settled at template — in front of you, before anything is cut.

If you are weighing granite against the alternatives: quartz for zero maintenance, marble and natural stone for a softer look with a patina, and porcelain or sintered stone for outdoor and UV exposure. The estimate is free and we will tell you which one suits how you actually use the room.
