The smallest job that changes a whole bathroom. A dated vanity with a cultured marble top is usually the first thing anyone notices in the room, and swapping it takes a day — not the week people assume, because nothing else in the bathroom is touched.

What the day looks like

We shut off the supplies, disconnect the trap and faucet, and pull the old cabinet and top out. The wall behind it gets patched where the old backsplash was glued on. The new cabinet goes in scribed and levelled, the stone top is set on it, the sink and faucet are fitted, and the plumbing is reconnected and run to check for leaks before we leave.

Two conditions turn one day into two: shutoff valves too corroded to close, which we replace, and a wall that needs more than a patch once the old backsplash comes off.

Sizing, and the tempting mistake

A vanity that is two inches wider than the last one can stop a door opening or crowd the toilet. We measure the room, the door swing and the clearance to the toilet centreline, and check where the drain and supplies come out of the wall, because that decides which drawer configuration is even possible.

Going wider is often available and worth it — many bathrooms have four to six inches of unused wall. That is the difference between one drawer bank and two.

Choosing the top

Quartz is the usual answer for a bathroom: non-porous, no sealing, and hair dye or toothpaste wipes off it. Granite and natural stone are available and often come from a remnant, which is where a single vanity top gets inexpensive. The sink decides the cutout, so bring the sink you actually want — undermount, vessel or integrated — to the estimate.

When to do more than the vanity

If the shower is failing, doing the vanity first is fine — it does not get in the way later. But if you already know the wet area is next, doing both together saves a second mobilisation and lets the finishes be specified as one package. That job is a wet-area remodel, and the whole-room version is a bathroom remodel.

Every job on the ladder stands on its own

Nobody has to start with a full remodel. Each rung below is a complete job we quote on its own — plenty of people do one, live with it, then call back about the next.
